Sheep Meadow

Originally known as the "Commons," Sheep Meadow earned its current name during the 1860s when the park's designers envisioned a pastoral landscape where sheep could roam freely.

Directions

We always set up at the north side of Sheep Meadow, which can most easily accessed via the entrance to the park at Central Park West and West 67th Street.  Google maps labels this Warner LeRoy Place and it goes directly through the former parking lot of the iconic Tavern on the Green restaurant.  Once you walk through this area (2 minutes), you will end up at West Drive. When you see the statue of Giuseppe Mazzini on your left, use the crosswalk to cross West Drive. This will put you at the northwest corner of Sheep Meadow.

Keep walking towards the east, along the north side of Sheep Meadow, which is surrounded by a chain-link fence.  Once you pass the cafe Le Pain Quotidien, enter Sheep Meadow (on your right) and look for the blue and white striped umbrella.

Total walking time to the picnic spot from the time you enter Central Park at W 67th St. & Central Park West is 5 minutes
